“This is a great day for Sagamore Farm and Miss Temple City,” said Hunter Rankin, president of Sagamore Racing. “She is such a special filly and we are thrilled to be in a great partnership with Bob Feld, The Club Racing, LLC, and Allen Rosenblum. Graham made an excellent decision to put her in this spot and Drayden rode her perfectly.”

Trained by Fair Hill, Maryland-based Graham Motion and ridden by jockey Drayden Van Dyke, the four-year-old filly by Temple City, out of Glittering Tax, by Artax was the 6-1 choice competing against eight other male rivals. Today’s outing also marks Motion’s first career victory in the Grade 1 Maker’s 46 Mile.

“I loved the fact that we got the weight today; Drayden could do the weight,” said Motion in reference to Miss

Temple City’s lesser weight compared to her male rivals. “He suits this filly so well. I think this filly is better than she was last year. She’s improved physically. She looks like a colt.”

Looking to defy the odds amidst a field of well-seasoned colts, Miss Temple City jumped out of the No. 2 post, keeping the lead within her sights for the first half mile. Heading into the final turn, the dark bay filly made her move around the outside of the field. Throughout the final furlong, Miss Temple City dueled for running room before ultimately pulling through for a 1 ¼ -length victory and solidifying her spot in the record books.

Today’s contest marks the filly’s first victory since taking the 2015 Hilltop Stakes on Black-Eyed Susan Day at Pimlico. To date, Miss Temple City posts a 10-4-3-2 career record.
